There is a sweet spot after ceremony where you have a great opportunity to shift. This means being very mindful of not going backwards. For instance, if you have a realization about a relationships in your life— i.e romantic, familial, work, food, exercise, self—that you work towards shifting this relationship in the direction of healing and release. It's possible to come away from ceremony with profound insight, thinking you've changed certain aspects of who you are or your perceptions, only to have a few weeks pass and notice you're failing back into old patterns. Being mindful and aware that this is possible is the most important aspect. From here, you can take the momentum the medicine provides and continue down that path. We are here to assist and help you maintain in those crucial weeks following.
Essentially, what ceremony does is change or alter your perception, just for a short amount of time, until that shift remains outside of ceremony. It's stepping into a different way of perceiving reality; your reality; a reality. It's very brave, if you think about it. While this medicine work has been around for thousands of years in older traditions, it's still very new in the West. We have much to learn from traditions and cultures of old.
For those who suffer mentally it may be overwhelming. It's my belief that suffering is simply attaching to a perception that isn't in alignment with who we are, our true self. We create meaning every moment of the day. Our perceptions are just that—personal meanings. What is the meaning you're making of your current reality? And what is the creation of meaning you're creating within an altered state of being? You have an opportunity to create new meanings, to expand your consciousness in mind, body, spirit and lifestyle.
The meaning you've made of your current perception (reality) could be causing some or all of your mental suffering. Allow yourself to step outside of your current meanings, like a third-party observer witnessing your life, and during the short time you're in ceremony, step into a different perception, one that can offer new insight.
Meaning is what you give it.
